Racconti

Racconti means stories in Italian, and that’s exactly what you’ll find here.

These are little pieces of my life: memories of growing up in Sardinia, moving to Britain, family, food, language mishaps and those everyday moments that somehow stay with us.

There’s a little Italian woven into each one, but you don’t need to study anything.

Make yourself comfortable, choose whichever story catches your eye and simply enjoy the read.

Buona lettura! 😊

At twenty, a suitcase was packed and London beckoned. A story about leaving home, taking a chance and starting a new life.

Fish juice, mixed-up names and a wedding vow that nearly went very wrong. Some language mistakes are too good to forget.

A family lunch, an awkward misunderstanding and an Italian mother-in-law who wasn’t quite ready to pass on the message.

An summer job in London, a busy sandwich bar and the perils of thinking that making a panino should be simple.

A typewriter, a job interview and an accent that wouldn’t go away. A story about starting over in a new country.

Fish on Fridays, small sacrifices and an awful lot of praying. A story about growing up Catholic in Sardinia.

One UK heatwave, one last fan, and a question that brought back memories of long, slow summers in Sardinia.

A very confused British husband, a table full of family and everyone talking at once. A story about being loved a little too enthusiastically.

Lost luggage, an empty plate and a very different way of life. A story from a summer in Brighton.
